I don't think that your domain name affect for your site ranking. But if you use a meaningful domain name for your business, it will help you to improve your business among people.

Well there is no specific formula about it.. but if you have meaningful domain name it will get popular soon. and helpful to improve your business website related with a domain.

there's a slight advantage when there are KWs in the domain name however, the ranking will be based more on the web site/page itself

It does affect a minor part, I think. I'm saying so 'coz, one of the guys I know bought a domain (I really forgot the domain name) and when I searched for the keyword of very same domain name, I got his site indexed in the first page. Be aware of this, guys!!!
