Data encryption is a security method when data is translated to another form so that unauthorized users can't read it. As data theft is usually the end goal of any cybercrime, encrypting your personal information and other sensitive data will significantly increase the chances cybercriminals won't make use of it, even if they manage to get access to it. They won't be able to decrypt the data without having a decryption key.
