My HTML is great, XHTML and CSS understanding is ok... the point is that I understand that <h?> tags have in-built cr+lf so how best can I actually achieve optimise the sites' coding for spiders/crawlers and at the same time write palatable copy?

A little help please :?:
Don't complicate the question yourself mate. Just do highlight the keywords with <h2> tags, as per your client's request and keep writing the content and post it. If you want to optimise the full site, then you gotta learn some basic SEO

You can use css to make the <h2> tag look exactly like the rest of the text. But from sn SEO stnd pint you don't need h2. <strong> or <i> is just as effective and is more human freindly.
