Sometimes I think the only search engines that matter out there are Google and Yahoo. These seem to be the most popular. Everyone I know has google as their home page and use it as their primary search tool.

yeah I realize you can gain traffic from them. If you get ranked by google and yahoo, shouldn't you be getting ranked by those as well?

other search engines rely only the big 3 SEs. (Google, Yahoo, MSN)

Search engine / crawlers for home use

I see that more and more people use home crawlers to find what they need.

For users this has the advantage that they will be less bothered by textual ads and they do not need to browse through lots of sites to find pictures of what they want. Therefore I think these kind of tools will be used more.

I think this will change the way websites need to be promoted, because users only download pictures or videos on the topic they are interested in.

These kind of crawlers follows links on specific keywords, so the links to your website need to have as many keywords as possible.

Also the crawler is finished with your site if it cannot find the document type it searches. So your site should preferably have a good ad in as many different document types as possible...

What about helping web to flourish and become accessible for all beyond Google,Yahoo,MSN? Nowadays, when the net is also user-controlled, we can freely contribute to alternative search enigne incubator creation thus promoting the development search engine market. It is already an on-going process and the best news is that it doesn't require any financial resources . Just some of user's time and willingness to help. I am one of the first volunteers and it gives me a feeling that I'm involved in a far going process.

I think focusing more on Google could really give you the right traffic you want. Other SEs shouldn't be ignored but shouldn't be a priority because they can still drive a little traffic.

I have never heard of anyone using a home crawler. If you rank good on Google other search engines should follow, but I cannot say this is true for Yahoo. I have a number one site on Google and it is not in he top 30 for Yahoo. So something is completely different about the two.
