yes google is planning to launch search engine but it will be very tough competition for facebbok.

i don't think that there is any news that fb is launching search engine . I feel that fb never launch a search engine because there is already very big players in this field . They may prefer to concentrate more on their Social networking . They are big players in that field .

It's hard to see how anyone would take on google now - could facebook really do search better than google does? My guess is that it would take so much investment that it wouldn't be worth their while.

You need Google analytics for tracking your traffic. Google webmaster tools for tracking your keywords. And Yahoo site Explorer to track links back to your site as Google does like to provide this info in a reliable manner.
