DXF stands for Data Exchange Format, is a very old and most widely used CAD file format. A CAD software is required to view the entities of DXF file in a graphics window. ActCAD is one of the cost-effective CAD software to create and edit DXF file formats. It supports all DXF file formats since R2 version to latest 2018 version. The files are universally compatible with other DXF readers and machines.

DXF is a open file format available in either plain text (ASCII) or binary forms. It is a structured data of all DXF entities as per DXF file specification which is openly published by Autodesk. As the format is open, it is normally of much higher size compared to DWG file format. However, the main advantage is many machines can directly read DXF file format such as later cutting, water jet machining, flame cutting, cnc machines etc. Thus DXF file format is continuing its importance in engineering industry.
