A recent interview with both Google and Bing by Danny Sullivan discovered just how much influence your tweetings can have on a post’s popularity. Both companies admitted that they look at the social authority of each user. This includes how many people the user follows and how many follow them back. Google also admitted it affects the “news universal by marking how many people shared an article”

It’s an interesting revelation, as it means that those who push their content on Facebook and, in particular, Twitter, are more likely to build a higher ‘social authority’, helping them climb the Google and Bing search results. This is great news, particularly as many social media cynics have been quick to dismiss the benefits of using social media to market content.

i know it does some help, but i still dont focus on it too much. most of my google ranking comes from articles, not facebook and twitter. still, it should be a part of any competent SEO arsenal.
