Personally, I use Traffic Travis which allows you to check the competition on keywords. Another product which is good is Micro Niche Finder. If you want a free way, then why not use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, you can use it here

Yes generally we all use google adwords for keyword analysis. And it is the best tool for it.

Google Adwords is best tool for keyword research. I am using it and it works fine for me. It provides information regarding Global and Local monthly search volume with competition report.
