If I had the keyword dog collars and wanted a domain would you say you would rank higher if your domain was just the keyword dogcollars.com or would it matter if it was cheapdogcollars.com ?????

if the domain name will reflect the main keyword phrase for your website then you'll have better chances of ranking better. The domain name is very important. I just happen to wrote an article on
how to chose your domain name a few days ago.

Putting in the domain name keyword will not improve your SEO. Yo'd better work on the content and offsite SEO to improve yyour rankings
Yes it does

The keyword in the domain will help as it tells the SE what your site is about, as long as the rest of your content reflects the same thing. As to using dogcollars.com vs. cheapdogcollars.com, if you can get the first one it is better but only because then you can talk about every dog collar known to man within the pages. If you get cheapdogcollars.com, then that is what your visitors will expect so it's rather self-limiting for you.

The key word in a name of the domain means, that even if someone writes your domain, in this phrase there is a necessary key word.

It can only help you by having the keyword in the domain name. It can be helpful but is not necessary.
For example , lets say you have 2 domains , one is notyourkeyword.com the other is dogcollars.com you are trying to target dog collars.
If someone links to you with just the http link of your domain then it will help give you some points for that keyword.
Hope this makes sense.
I bought the domain Hummer HX Concept a few months back.

My site has very little content and the links don't work, but the domain name ranks high due to the domain name.
http://www.HummerHxConcept.com
I feel it's a combination of the domain name & content.

Having the same keyword as your domain is always advantageous. For two equally optimized sites the search engines rank the site better which has the same keyword as its domain. So, For "Dog Collars" dogcollars.com ranks better than cheapdogcollars.com

When buying domains I normally try to have a keyword. With some sites such as certain brandables it really does not matter.
A good brandable can be better than a Keyword domain in some situations.

I agree. "cheap" word in the domain name does not help much. I don't think people looks for it in their searches. Dog Collar is better, but also relative. Content is usually the difference
