I actually don't like those new extensions, I still go for those 3 .com, .net, .org. But having several such as you mentioned, more websites can have their chance to get the name they have been longing for.

Nope , there wont be any time .paris or .london. To me it sounds really weird and I dont think ICANN will approve such a strange "idea" We should stick with .com and .net as TLD's are they way to go

I personally feel that .com is best bet, if you mananged to get one with .com

I always use a real estate analogy for domains. .com is like living in the city, the other domains are like living in the sticks. Sure there will always be someone who wants to live 100 miles from town out in the .net or .org countryside, but they wont be bothered by any traffic or business taking place out there.
The only potential i see for future extensions to be successful would be the .asia which has recently been released as an asian portal and the continually passed over .SPAM which could really help in cleaning up traffic and directing it to a more easily moderated part of town.
