google uk give uk domains an advantage

I have a few .org.uk domains and they get much better listings on google.co.uk then google.com.
Problem is they search for different words then we do in the US.
IE I have toplistings for gas credit cards but do they use petro in stead of gas?
Anyone here from the Uk I would like to find partners for UK marketing

We would never say GAS, we use PETROL here
PetrolPrices.co.uk just sold for £8,600 (source: domainprices.co.uk)
This is mainly as petrol costs are going through the roof, costs me $120 to fill up my car!
There are quite a few terms that are different or spelt differently:
labor vs labour
IZE vs ISE
If you have any specific UK questions I can probably help you.

I did SEO for a client who had both a ".com" and a ".co.uk" with pointing to different parts of his site. And indeed, the UK domain ranked higher on Google UK, while the .com ranked higher on Google USA. Could've been a coincidence though. Nonetheless, it's never a bad idea to register the UK version of your name if you can, just be careful about pointing your domains ... I wouldn't point more than two at the same site.

Does Goole search PETROL information when I search GAS and vice versa?
