Multiple domain names

Does it matter if you have a single site with multiple domain names ? I know this is common. I am just curious if this has an effect on your search engine ranking because of content duplication.

Every kind of content duplication will be penalised by Google and of course this will affect your rankings.

As long as you maintain redirection for all domain names i don't think it will be a problem ever. Make sure you don't try to put duplicate content on the domains ever.
