Is Blogging a good idea?

We are thinking of starting a blog and were wondering does it hurt to have the same blog on multiple sites and how do we jumpstart our new blog. Does it help or hurt with SEO

It does help SEO. Creating Blog is another way of promoting a site to increase traffic... Choose the theme of your blog (It's advisable to pick a related topic with your site coz it can also serve as another link). Then Submit your blog to different directories

Agree, probably blog is really helpful. But how the blog can increase your PR, at least from the beginning, if the blog's PR by itself has to be raised.
If you post your blog even with the famous blogsite, like "blogspot.com", it takes a time until your blog will get PR. Don't you think so?
IMO, correct me if I'm wrong.
